The poet Miguel de Cervantes is thrown into a bleak prison, awaiting a heinous punishment despite having done no wrong. As he waits among a cynical cast of fellow prisoners, Cervantes tells the tale of a man transforming into Don Quixote; a knight who pursues high and noble causes even in an unchivalrous and ignoble world as he fights for the heart of Dulcinea, a seeming world-hardened woman. Man of La Mancha is a deeply moving interpretation of the Don Quixote story that examines dreamers in a hopeless situation. This musical asks whether belief can really turn windmills into dragons, and doomed prisoners into triumphant knights.
