No more jerry-rigging the grid!
|
Dear Friends, This season, we celebrate 40 successful years housed in Poulton Hall Stage III. In that time, this space has not only provided us an amazing venue to stage our shows, but has also become a cherished home for so many Mask and Bauble members. From the modest beginnings of Stage I and II, the current Stage III provides Mask and Bauble with a place that we can call our own, take care of, and take pride in. Mask & Bauble is one of the only student groups at Georgetown to have its own space, and with that comes the job of maintaining it. This responsibility has been a priority of ours for the past several years as our recent “Keep the Lights On” campaign a few year ago helped to buy all new dimmers for Stage III. They are working wonderfully and have been an exceptional addition for M&B. Now the time has come again to take actions to ensure the quality and security of the space so many of us call home. We have reached a moment where some significant upgrades to Stage III are needed, and in order to make that happen, we need your help! Keep the Lights Up! The current grid that supports our lights, curtains, and myriad scenic pieces has dutifully kept our lights in the air for over 30 years. It is now time for its retirement. This involves removing the current grid from our ceiling, replacing it, and repairing the ceiling from which we pull it. Our goal is to raise the funds during the 2015-16 season and install the grid next summer 2016. |
What do we use the grid for?
The grid forms an integral part of every show we produce, providing a place for designers to hang lights, sound equipment, curtains, and scenic pieces. It allows us the freedom to use Stage III in countless ways in a safe and professional manner.
The grid in Stage III is currently comprised of 22 steel pipes secured into the ceiling with over 50 metal hangers. Our plan is to replace these ceiling connections and strengthen these pipes to ensure the grid will continue to serve Mask & Bauble well into the future. |

Replacing the grid, which is over twenty years old, will cost an estimated $35,000. Through the generosity of the Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA) and the Performing Arts Advisory Council (PAAC), we have already secured $20,000 towards this important project.
That leaves us with $15,000 to raise, and together, we can make that happen! Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to Mask & Bauble today by clicking the link to the left.
