Let Us Support You
Stage III and other spaces in Poulton Hall are quaint. We hope that the resources we provide via the Stage, Office, Lounge and Cave will help incubate your creativity in whatever theatrical endeavor you happen to pursue.
The Mask and Bauble Library, Resource Center, and Design Studio
We have archives of old shows and designs, gel books, sound CDs and much more at your disposal in the Lounge and Office areas. The Office also comes equipped with two Mac computers and the Adobe Design Suite for your explosive release of creative juices.
Set Design
We have an updated VectorWorks file of the Poulton Stage III space available on both the Poulton and Davis Performing Arts Center (DPAC) design computers. While the DPAC design studio is the best place to put together your set model, there are likely to be many fun resources (fish tank pebbles, fine sand, metallic string, and other silly trinkets both useful and otherwise) in the Mask and Bauble Cave.
Poulton’s Challenges: If it wasn’t challenging it wouldn’t be called theatre! There are a number of things to keep in mind when designing for Poulton: the floor is not entirely even, and the ceiling is only 10 feet high. Shims from the Cave will help keep platforms from becoming a see-saw instead of a safe and sturdy set. No flat should end any higher than 9 feet off the ground. Finally, integrating several or many verticals into your design is one strategy to help make the ceiling feel taller.
Light Design
Stage III has 48 dimmers. You can model your lights on the Poulton or DPAC design computers with the 2009 version of the Poulton Hall floor plan, which already has the Poulton Hall grid saved in the document. We will be performing an inventory over the summer, but in general our light inventory includes a couple Source 4s, a good number of Source 4 Junior Zooms, Fresnels, strip lights, and other lighting instruments. We tend to use Rosco gels; gels from our previous shows are stocked in the lighting closet next to the stage. We will also keep Rosco, Appolo, Lee, and GAM gel books in the M&B office for light designers to peruse as they plan their creations.
Sound Design
The Mask and Bauble resource center will have sound designs from previous shows as well as several CDs with sound effects available for you to use as you craft your design. The Office contains a Mac with QLab, which can be used in Stage III for technical and dress rehearsals and performances.
Graphic Design
*Please note that all publicity items besides the T-Shirts must include the M&B logo, the DPA logo, and the year of the show.
Posters: In general, we order 11″x17″ posters by uploading a 300-DPI Photoshop PDF file to the poster printing service. As you create your poster, please be aware of the 1/8″ bleed on all sides, so your document should be 11.25″x17.25″ inches, keeping all important information reasonably within the bleed line.
Banners: Banner for light box: 60″ high by 32″ wide. Banner for Red Square or Leavy: Preferably 4′x6′ for vertical hanging banners and 3′x5′ for horizontal hanging banners. No bleed space necessary
Flyers: Please work with your producer to figure out what type of flyers the show is interested in creating.
T-Shirts: If you are an ambitious graphic designer, you are welcome to pitch in on designing the show T-Shirt. Most of our shirts will have at-most 3 colors – a shirt color and 2 ink colors. Please keep this in mind as you plan your designs.
